Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is a stunning word-processing tool that belongs to the family of Microsoft Office Suite. It was developed by Microsoft with the contributions of Richard Brodie and Charles Simonyi in 1983 with the name Multi-Tool Word. It was renamed Microsoft Word and is used on around one billion devices around the world.

As we aforementioned, it is part of Microsoft Office, but you can use it as a standalone app as well. The extension of the Word file is known as “.doc or .docx”. It allows you to create documents using editing tools, resumes, contracts, etc. 

Innovative Changes

MS Word from its start in 1983 took a long flight and got innovative changes from time to time. Word was WYSIWYG (what you see what you get) program. It means the documents you create or see on your screen are the same as your printer prints out. The first computer mouse was used to display on-screen styles i.e. italic, bold, underlined text, etc. 

Version 2.0 in 1985 was embedded with some new innovative features i.e. spell checker, word counter, and some other upgrades. The first version of Word was launched for Windows OS by Microsoft. 

Macintosh Word 1.0 was released in 1985 and was directly adapted for DOS. Microsoft Team carried on their efforts to overcome the incompatibility concerns while developing the original code for the Word for Macintosh software. They successfully developed it in the 1990s, and in 2003 Windows and Macintosh were renamed as MS Word. 

The release of the MS Word version was continued within two years, and the 2019 Word version is the current version as part of Microsoft Office 365.
